Watermans has announced a series of story-telling events for children during half-term.

One of them is Chinye, an ancient Igbo story that chronicles the magical journey of a young girl who is told by her stepmother to go through the forest late at night to collect water from the river.

She meets characters that give her secrets to help her with a roaring lion or how to listen to the slithering snake.

She could go home with all the treasures of Igbo land or she could lose the clothes

off her back leaving her naked.

This half-term, children can join story-teller Chinyere Nwaubani to find out what happens to Chinye.

Chinyere Nwaubani is a 'Griot', a member of a class of travelling story-tellers, poets and musicians who maintain a tradition of oral history in West Africa.

For the last 30 years, Griot Chinyere Nwaubani has been carrying stories, weaving tales and bringing messages from all over the world.

Tickets and timings can be obtained here.
