A new corporate plan to bring thousands of affordable homes to the borough and as well as apprenticeships and a massive pothole repair programme has been unveiled by the council.

It retains the five key pledges made in its previous corporate plan in 2018 - to ensure sound financial management, secure 5,000 affordable homes, overhaul doorstep collections to make recycling easier, invest £2 million to fix potholes in local roads, and create 4,000 new apprenticeships and training opportunities.

Hounslow Council says it will champion and support the local economy, seek to combat structural inequality, and tackle poverty and disadvantage.

Council leader Steve Curran said: "The events of 2020 changed life for all of us and there were many setbacks, but we also drew inspiration from the new ways the local community, public sector partners and businesses came together with the council to address the challenges and begin to rebuild.

"Our vision is to be an outstanding council serving an outstanding borough, and this plan is about how we're going to achieve this.

"It attempts to capture and embed the best of the new ways of working to help put residents at the heart of what we do.

"We have ambitious plans for new homes, strengthening our communities, helping businesses to flourish, and making sure young people reach their potential, and much more besides.

"Our plan sets out what residents can expect from each of our commitments and allows the community to gauge the progress we make.

"Our five key pledges – such as securing 5,000 affordable homes and investing £2 million on fixing potholes – highlight some of the practical ways we're making a difference. These concrete actions are another way residents can judge whether we're delivering on our promises.

"I want every resident to know that the Council is here to support you and work with you to build back after Covid.

"By standing together as a community, by thinking and working as One Hounslow, we can deliver a more hopeful and prosperous future, and a fairer, greener, stronger borough."

The corporate plan was voted through at the full council meeting this week.
