The Leader of Hounslow Council, Councillor Steve Curran, has said he supports the decision by L&Q to keep Morrisons supermarket in Brentford.

In a statement endorsing Morrisons' retention, Cllr Curran said: "I am delighted that L&Q have taken steps to enable Morrisons to remain on their existing site until June 2023.

"With the new Morrisons site on Brentford High Street scheduled to also be completed in June 2023, Brentford residents can look forward to having a local supermarket on their doorstep. I am sure that this news will be warmly welcomed by the residents of Brentford.

"This outcome is testament to the commitment and hard work of L&Q, council officers and the ward councillors in Syon and Brentford who worked tirelessly with all those involved to ensure this was achieved.

"Supermarkets are often focal points for local communities, and I saw first-hand the integral role supermarkets played during the pandemic – supporting the most vulnerable residents in the borough.

"I am pleased that Morrisons in Brentford will remain an important part of the local community and a place where Brentford residents can easily access their shopping needs."
