More 3,000 three local people gave their time and energy to help feed the elderly, shield families and ensure some of our most vulnerable communities were protected.

They are being honoured as part of Volunteers' Week (1-7 June) when Hounslow Council, with partners Ealing and Hounslow CVS, are taking the opportunity to thank all the volunteers for going that extra mile during the pandemic.

Volunteers like Debbie Noad, Community Champion for Hounslow Council, who has been volunteering for over a year.

She said she is proud to be part of the initiative and feels that it is important for COVID-19 messages to reach people of all ages and backgrounds in the community.

Debbie said: "I live and work in the borough and like to keep informed so that I can share messages with local people. Navigating your way through the rules and knowing when you can get vaccinated can be really confusing.

"I've also got to know so many people and built a rapport with them. I have really enjoyed being a community champion. But, most importantly, it has made such a difference to people living in Heston, which is fantastic."

Reggie Thomas, Community Hub volunteer, said: "As a volunteer for Hounslow Council, I undertook a number of rewarding roles including providing meals to the elderly, people with disabilities and shielding families with children.

"Residents are so grateful for small gestures of help, such as taking them for their hospital and GP appointments and Covid vaccinations. It is so humbling to be able to support our community.

"It is important to step up and offer whatever support we can during these challenging times."

Cllr Katherine Dunne, Cabinet Member for Communities and Climate Emergency, at Hounslow Council said: "This year's Volunteers' Week is all about recognising the contribution our volunteers have made across the borough.

"I would like to say a huge 'thank you' to all our fantastic volunteers and would encourage everyone to take the time to say thank you to all of the volunteers who have helped and supported them over the last year.

"Their crucial contribution has not stopped, despite the uncertain times we find ourselves in, and will continue as an important part of our borough's recovery."
