The Dock Shop on Brentford Dock was a life-saver during the last lockdown.

When panic-buying gripped supermarkets and they ran out of items such as toilet rolls, the Dock Shop came to the rescue.

It is run by Manmeet Singh but everyone knows him as Manny. Now in the latest lockdown, the shop is playing its part by providing free home deliveries and making sure nobody bulk buys.

Manny said: "We have a strict rule that people can only buy one item at a time as they need it."

He has been running the shop since 2013 when he took it over from his cousin.

His business strategy is to keep a well-stocked shop but also to find out what customers want.

He said: "I listen to my customers. If I haven't got something they want, I get it for them the next day.

'It may be they want a certain wine or type of food. If I haven't got it in stock, I go out and get it.

"We use a range of wholesale suppliers so whatever people want, I can get it for them, usually by the next day."

Manny, originally from Afghanistan, lives on the Dock so feels part of the community.

"The people are great. I love the customers, they are good, honest people. It's about working together and providing people with what they want."

As well as offering a massive variety of goods, including, food, newspapers, beers, wines and bread, the shop has now become a collection point for parcels.

For customers isolating, Manny provides a free delivery service. He said: "We are also open early in the morning at 8am until 10pm which means we are there for our customers around the clock."

Manny may love his customers, but his customers also love his shop. Dock resident Rosa Rodriguez said: "Manny is always cheerful and chatty. When you go into the shop, he makes you feel welcome.

"The shop is well stocked and I remember when there was panic buying in the supermarkets, he was the only shop not to run out of things. The shop is the Dock's greatest asset."
