Sofa delivery nightmare for 85-year-old Brentford resident forced to sit in garden chair

An 85-year-old Brentford Towers resident has been left sitting on a garden chair after her old sofas were taken away and she's had to wait weeks for a sofa company to deliver new ones.

Dorothy Guineay ordered and paid £1,100 for a sofa set on the 9th June from the sofa company DFS.

The company organised the removal of her old sofas on the 20th September, with the new suite set to arrive the following day.

However, this delivery fell through and has left Dorothy with only a fold-up garden chair to sit on for the past two weeks.

This follows four rescheduled delivery dates since the initial order.

Dorothy, who lives alone, said: "I'm at the end of my tether, I want the truth, where are my sofas?

"It's the not knowing which is really difficult, but what can I do?"

She added: "I fell over on the chair the other day so I have to really sit still, it's really uncomfortable, the chair hurts my back.

"I keep crying about it, I don't want to spend my days in bed."

She has relied on the help of her niece, Lynn Hayes, who has had to make several trips to the store in Brentford to find out where the furniture has gone and why the deliveries kept getting re-scheduled.

Lynne said: "Trying to contact them has been a hard task and to find out the actual truth of where and when her furniture will be delivered is even harder!

"This is seriously affecting my Aunt's health."

Multiple tracking orders show order deliveries arranged for the 9th, 21st and 24th of September, which all fell through.

In response to the case, DFS said:

"DFS apologises for the delays incurred and the inconvenience caused.

"Positive customer experience continues to be our top priority.

"The delivery of the furniture has now been arranged with Ms Guineay for 5th October 2021 and there will be no delivery charge."

Dorothy and Lynn also received a call from the manager of Brentford DFS offering their "sympathy and disgust" at the situation.

Update: we are pleased to report both sofas were successfully delivered on 5 October.
