Residents in Hounslow have moved into the council's first carbon zero housing development after it was completed on Thursday 18th May.
The two-year project to build 13 affordable carbon zero homes in the borough includes four shared ownership houses, which means that the residents own a share of the home to help them get on the property ladder.
Located on the corner of Staines Road and Frampton Road in Hounslow, the scheme incorporates the use of Air Source Heat Pumps, photovoltaic panels and a highly efficient building fabric, which contributes to Hounslow Council tackling the climate emergency it declared in 2019.
The Deputy Leader of Hounslow Council and Cabinet Member for Climate, Environment and Transport Strategy, Councillor Katherine Dunne, said: "Like many other London boroughs, Hounslow is facing an acute housing shortage. This scheme epitomises our commitment to tackling the housing crisis and building 1,000 new council homes over the next four years.
"Not only will these residents benefit from homes at affordable rent, but they will also benefit from homes with a zero- carbon design."
Over the course of the past year, Hounslow Council have built 400 council homes in the borough to help residents find affordable homes.
Speaking about the Council's development plans, Councillor Tom Bruce, Cabinet Member for Regeneration and Development at Hounslow Council, added: "Affordable homes will simply not happen without investment and growth from businesses and developers.
"The Council is keen to cement its reputation as a borough where businesses and developers can invest for the benefit of local people.
"As a Council, we have a responsibility to create thriving neighbourhoods where communities can connect and businesses can flourish."
