RESIDENT'S Association expressed disappointment following the decision by the Mayor of London to allow the massive Tesco and Homebase development to go ahead.

The proposals will see the Tesco site in Syon Lane, Osterley and the Homebase at Gillette Corner, Brentford turned into buildings of up to 17 storeys with up to 2,150 homes.

The Mayor Sadiq Khan accepted the planning application for the development, which was approved by Hounslow Council earlier this year.

The Osterley & Wyke Green Residents' Association petitioned against the scheme and said they were "extremely disappointed" by the Mayor's decision on Tuesday.

The Association said: "Local residents support development, we accept positive change, but we oppose overdevelopment."

The housing association has said the current population in Osterley & Spring Grove ward would increase by over 40% as a result of the scheme.

Local community groups and MPs have also warned of the lack of family sized homes and the lack of infrastructure development to support the new population.

The association proposed that the new blocks of flats should be no more than 6 storeys high.

Local conservative MPs slammed the redevelopment and stated that houses in the predominantly low-rise area will be hit with a 40% reduction in light levels.

Sukhy Bahia, Conservative candidate in Osterley and Spring Grove, added: "These proposals will do irreversible harm to our community.

"We need quality homes, not cramped rooms being built to tick boxes for the council's housing quota.

"We will not stop standing up for local residents rightly worried about these proposals and will continue to fight for the Secretary of State to delay this disastrous development."
