Plans for a block of over 130 new flats in Hounslow have been revealed to replace a 'featureless' office block in the area.

The project would see 132 flats being built on the site on Burlington Lane in Chiswick.

The homes would be delivered in a stepped block up to 10 storeys tall, with seven of the new units being 'affordable'.

Planning documents from SimpsonHaugh Architects, on behalf of Burlington Properties, said the scheme would also include space for shops, outdoor seating and a play area.

The new homes would see the current five-storey office building on the site being demolished.

The 1980s building has reportedly been empty since 2016 and features semi-open brick details, which were criticised in the new plans for being 'unforgiving'.

Hounslow Council officers also reportedly felt the current structure had a negative impact on the surrounding area.

The plans said: "This facade treatment continues for much of the perimeter of the complex, creating an unwelcoming and featureless environment at street level.

"The building has not aged well and is clearly not of the same character or architectural richness of its broader context."

The current building is also based beside a Premier Inn, which plans claimed could be developed in the future.

Several public realm improvements are planned for the site which would see the 'unattractive' spaces around the Hogarth Roundabout replaced with planting.

The proposal was reportedly developed following feedback from the public and bodies such as Historic England and the Greater London Authority.

This included reducing the proposed height of the building from 12 storeys to 10.

The plans said: "The resultant proposed development is an elegant and refined architectural proposition that is relevant and appropriate to its function, it is contextually responsive and comfortable in its setting."

The developer added: "It will increase the areas of public realm flanking the building, improving the pedestrian environment around the roundabout, on Burlington Lane and on Palladian gardens.

"The scheme will have an important wayfinding and placemaking role in this respect."
