Town planners have produced a draft vision for the future of Brentford town centre that includes better connections on its waterways and providing clusters of shops and cafes.

It also sets out ideas for Watermans Park and St Lawrence's Church.

Hounslow Council has based the draft on a massive survey undertaken asking residents what they thought of the town and how they wanted to see it develop in the future.

Ideas in the draft include:

- An attractive, safe and continuous Thames River Path that connects to the River Brent and canal.

- Providing a mix of activity fronting the water - traditional industries, canal boats and pubs; new cafes/bars; and parkland and wetland.

- Waterman's Park as a priority project, to transform this river front space, with planting and community facilities.

- Better signage towards the waterfront, and investment in Brentford's historic lanes and yards connecting the High Street and the water.

- A programme of events celebrating Brentford's role at the confluence of the Rivers Thames and Brent, with learning and volunteering opportunities.

- Establish a network of green and open spaces within the town and better links to large open spaces nearby.

- Investment in St Lawrence's churchyard, Waterman's Park, St Paul's Recreation Ground as Brentford's key green spaces.

- Better walking and cycling links to Boston Manor Park, Gunnersbury Park and Syon Park, possibly with a new River Brent footbridge.

- A new nature reserve at the former rail line to the west of Commerce Road with learning and volunteering opportunities.

Council officers have worked with teams across the council and urban planning consultants Allies & Morrison to develop draft visions for each of the four town centres in Hounslow

The engagement launched on 19 February and runs until 15 March.
