What a difference a few years make. These are pictures of the Ballymore redevelopment site taken in early 2019 and over the last few years.

At that point the parade of shops in Brentford High Street had yet to be demolished.

A number of disused buildings at the back were still waiting for the bulldozers.

Just a few months before these pictures were taken, a group of travellers had moved onto the site and had to be evicted.

Towards the end of the year demolition teams moved in and the parade was pulled down.

Last year saw major excavation work start but it was halted for a period as the pandemic struck.

Work re-started later in the year which saw the arrival of the first crane in November.

It was also announced that Morrisons would be moving into the development when it is completed.

This year the land became a full-scale construction site and there are now four high-rise cranes at work.

The new buildings are now going up, work is underway on the underground car park and land around St Lawrence's Church is being cleared.

The 4.79-hectare waterside site incorporating 112,000 sq m of floor space across eleven buildings will combine residential, retail, employment, community and leisure uses.

The Brentford Project includes approximately 14,000 sq m of new retail, as well as leisure and commercial opportunities, and a gym / leisure centre.

Waterside restaurants, cafés and pubs will line the frontage and extensions to the Thames path will open up new walking routes along the water's edge.

The apartments are already on the market and should be ready to move into in winter next year, says Ballymore.
