Old Brentford police station site still waiting on Secretary of State's decision

By The Editor 26th Aug 2021

It's been idle for several years since the police station in Half Acre closed.

Since then the site has become more dilapidated

and stands as an eyesore blighting the town, as our latest pictures show.

So what's going to happen to the site?

The answer is that it's down to the government.

Hounslow Council approved two planning applications in 2018 for 193 flats on the Watermans Arts Centre/Max Factor site and the replacement of Watermans, of similar size to the existing one, plus 105 flats at the police station.

The proposal for the Watermans site was called in by the Secretary of State in April 2018 after objections from Historic England regarding the visual impact of the flats from Kew Gardens.

An inquiry was held in October 2020 and a decision from the Secretary of State is awaited.

What happens to the police station will depend on the Secretary of State approving the flats on the Watermans site.
