London mayoral election nominations have closed today (Wednesday, 27 March) at 4pm.

A formal list of the nominees are expected before Tuesday, 2 April and polling day is on Thursday, 2 May 2024 from 7am to 10pm.

However, the major parties have already unveiled their candidates: Sadiq Khan from Labour, the incumbent Mayor of London; Susie Hall from the Conservatives; Zoe Garbett from the Green Party; and Rob Blackie from the Liberal Democrats.

Candidates need a total of 330 signatures of people on the electoral register in London to support their nomination.

Typically, it comprises 10 representatives from each London borough and an additional 10 from the City of London.

To enter the London mayoral race, nominees also needed to make a deposit of £10,000 which is returned to them after the election if they poll more than 5%.

In the previous mayoral election, a record-breaking 20 candidates contested.

The upcoming election will see over 3,600 polling stations set up throughout London.

A workforce exceeding 12,000 individuals will oversee operations at these stations.

An additional 10,000 people will be available for the verification and counting of votes on 3 and 4 May.

To qualify for voting registration, individuals must be 18 years or older by 2 May, reside in London, and hold British, qualifying Commonwealth, or EU citizenship.
