A Mexican restaurant is set to move into the building that was occupied by Byron Burger in Chiswick Hugh Road.

Chipotle, the global chain of Mexican restaurants, has applied for planning permission.

The company specialises in tacos and Mission burritos that are made to order in front of the customer.

Hounslow Council has received a planning application for work on 227-229 Chiswick High Road for work at the site including the repositioning of the front door.

It is expected that this work will be complete in May in time to open in the summer.

The chain was founded by Steve Ells in 1993, in Denver, Colorado and had 16 restaurants when the McDonald's Corporation became a major investor.

Jacob Sumner, Chipotle's European Operations Director, said: "Chipotle is helping to cultivate a better world by serving responsibly sourced, classically-cooked, real food with wholesome ingredients without artificial colours, flavours or preservatives.

"We are excited to bring Chipotle's real food to the Chiswick community with our new restaurant opening on Chiswick High Road this summer.

"As the first Chipotle restaurant located outside of central London, it will offer an amazing, open-fronted dining room as well as a convenient walk-up window for guests picking up digital orders."
