Brentford and Isleworth MP Ruth Cadbury has called on the government to take urgent action to increase the availability of brain tumour research grants.

The MP spoke in Parliament after a request from a constituent called Greg.

Ms Cadbury told the House that Greg's nephew had recently been diagnosed with a brain tumour.

Having made her aware of the funding problems for brain tumour research she urged the Department of Health to do more to increase the number of grants for brain tumour research bids.

Speaking afterwards, the MP said: "So many families across the country have had to receive the news that a loved one has a brain tumour.

"Back in 2018 the Government promised £40 million in new funding for brain tumour research, yet only £8 million of this has been spent so far.

"Brain tumour experts say that one problem is the lack of brain tumour expertise on the research award bodies, so good applications are often turned down.

"It's therefore vital that the Government does more to ensure that we expand and improve the research opportunities, as I suggested during my question.

"I will continue to urge the Government to take urgent action to ensure that my constituents and families across the country are not forgotten.'"
