Hillier Nurseries are taking over the site and are creating a new gardening shop, farm shop and a café and restaurant.

The company said: "We have a trio of exciting developments to share, as work continues at pace.

"Last week, we were delighted to welcome the first trollies of plants to the site - many, many more of those to come!

"Also on site are the shop fittings and the materials for the smart new resin bonded surfaces throughout the expansive plant area."

The two new eateries have been named as The Clockworktower Café and The Courtyard Restaurant.

Plants and trees, gardening accessories, garden furniture and outdoor cooking ranges as well as giftware will go on sale at the new shop.

Hillier was founded in 1864 by Edwin Hillier and remains a family-run nursery with the fifth generation now actively involved.

It employs more than 700 staff and grows almost one million plants a year.

The company has given no set date for the opening but the aim is to be up and running by the end of Spring this year.
