Brentford households are being encouraged to take part in the first ever Repair Week, organised by London Waste and Recycling Board (LWARB).

From today, October 12-17, Repair Week will feature a range of online panel discussions, engaging video content, virtual repair workshops, discounts and social media activity.

The full programme of events and offers is available on the Repair week website.

Research commissioned by the London Recycles campaign has revealed that Londoners are eager to repair and re-use things, with over two thirds (69 per cent) stating they would repair more of their household items and possessions if they knew how.

Repair Week will help people to learn how to keep items like clothing, bikes, furniture and electricals in use for longer.

It could also help save the planet as currently, 45 per cent of global carbon emissions comes from producing items households use every day.

There are plenty of ways to get inspired and start repairing in Hounslow including;

  • DIY repair videos created by Coalo, council-owned facilities management company.
  • Free cycle health checks from Dr Bike.
  • Repair and refashion your clothes with Love Your Clothes.
  • Hounslow Adult and Community Education Courses.

Councillor Guy Lambert, Cabinet Member for Highways, Recycling and Companies said:

"I'm delighted that Hounslow is supporting London's first ever Repair Week. Our residents are already fantastic at recycling but it's vital that we all work towards reducing our waste.

"There are plenty of useful resources to help people find the inspiration to give things a second lease of life and help to save money with simple DIY repairs around the home.

"Keeping our things in use for longer helps make a positive contribution to the environment, reducing our carbon footprint, while helping to keep the borough clean and tidy by not littering or dumping unwanted items."
