Hounslow Council has paid tribute to the fallen servicemen and women that lost their lives serving and defending the nation during the two World Wars and subsequent conflicts around the world.

Remembrance Sunday is a national opportunity to remember the service and sacrifice of all those that have defended our freedoms and protected our way of life. We remember the Armed Forces, and their families, from Britain and the Commonwealth, the vital role played by the emergency services and those who have lost their lives as a result of conflict or terrorism.

This morning, the Mayor of Hounslow, Councillor Raghwinder Siddhu and the Deputy Lieutenant for Hounslow, Ms Rosi Prescott attended a special Armistice Day Service, at the Holy Trinity Church in Hounslow, to commemorate the eleventh hour of the eleventh day of the eleventh month of 1918 when peace terms were signed ending the Great War in 1918.

The Mayor of Hounslow, Councillor Raghwinder Siddhu, said: "It is a tremendous honour to be leading the borough's remembrance services as Mayor on behalf of the Council this year. It's particularly special to participate in the act of remembrance alongside our fantastic Royal British Legion branches and volunteers, whose dedication make these services possible. Each year, remembrance gives us the opportunity to reflect on the brave service and sacrifices of our Armed Forces.

"Our diverse borough is united across all faiths, cultures, and backgrounds in coming together to pay our respects to the fallen and to give thanks to our veterans and current serving forces. I welcome residents to join services across the borough on Sunday to mark this important day."

The Leader of Hounslow Council, Councillor Shantanu Rajawat added: "It's a great privilege to be able to stand alongside veterans and residents – paying tribute to the sacrifices of our brave servicemen and women.

"I hope many residents will join us in marking the occasion – remembrance is an important opportunity for us to come to together and learn lessons from the past.

"I want to thank our committed local Royal British Legion branches, community groups and volunteers for their dedication and efforts all year round to ensure these services of remembrance are possible each year."

Hounslow will be marking Remembrance Sunday on 13 November with Hounslow House lighting up red and remembrance services and the laying of wreaths, arranged by the Royal British Legion branches and other community groups at all nine War Memorials in the borough.
