Hounslow Council refuses Vodaphone's Market Place mast

A bid by Vodaphone to build a 20-metre-high mast in Market Place has been blocked by Hounslow Council.

Located in the Butts Conservation Area, the structure would have been three times the height of nearby trees and taller than the nearby Magistrate's House.

Significant local opposition to the proposal pointed out that its construction in a conservation area would contravene government advice that masts not be sited in protected areas.

The mast, which required two transmission dishes for the mobile network's 5G signals, would also have necessitated some of the square's decorative planters and seating be removed to accommodate four cabinets at its base.

Hounslow Council determined that the proposed mast would have caused significant harm in a conservation area, impacting the appearance of the space and the setting of a heritage asset.
