TRANSPORT for London (TfL) have announced that Gunnersbury Station will be exit-only for one hour following the final whistle at matches at the Brentford Community Stadium.

The scheme was introduced at last weekend's (July 31) pre-season friendly between the Bees and West Ham.

It's expected that this new system will now apply for all of Brentford's matches this season, as well as for London Irish matches too.

A one-way system will also be put in place for two hours before kick offs, with passengers only allowed to enter the station at the Grange Road/Wellesley Road entrance.

In a letter to station users TfL said: "We are doing this to ensure the safety of our customers.

"The decision to keep the station open to those exiting only – as opposed to closing the station entirely – was made to ensure that people living and working in the Gunnersbury area are still able to travel home or to work without disruption."

Brentford fans have not taken the news well, arguing that this will only force more people to use Kew Bridge Station.

One fan on a Brentford forum wrote: "That's nonsense, where's the logic in that?"

Another echoed that sentiment: "Was by far the most convenient station for us to get back home, now it's either join a scrum for a 65 to Kew Gardens, or face a walk to South Acton or Kew Gardens.

"Not ideal either way with a three-year-old and elderly father, on occasions.

"And where on earth are away fans going to be directed to?

"Kew Bridge can't handle that many people for starters."
