The adjoining building next to St Lawrence's Church has been all-but demolished as tree surgeons moved in behind the historic building.

Only part of the facade of the former refuge remained in place on Thursday but the rest of the building has been crushed by bulldozers.

Directly behind the church, a team of tree surgeons could be seen along with some trees that had their branches and tops cut off.

St Lawrence's, believed to be the oldest building in Brentford, is to be preserved but the grounds redeveloped into a gym, spa, swimming pool and block of flats.

Hounslow Council planning chiefs gave the go-ahead to developers Ballymore at a planning meeting last week.
