A Facebook group is appealing for Brentford people to join them to celebrate the Grand Union Canal.

The Canal is a major feature of the town and was once the gateway to London for produce and merchandise.

It is now used mainly for canal boats and leisure activities.

Friends of the Grand Union Canal share pictures and organise regular clean-ups of towpaths.

David Paton, one of the founders of the group, said: "The canal was an important part of Brentford and now is used more for recreation than transportation.

"Brentford is 'famous' for being the end of the Grand Union Canal, but we still don't have many members from Brentford in our group.

"If you take good photos, why not join and share them."

The Facebook page can be found here.
