A row over gates at Brentford Dock has taken a new twist after council draft plans for the future of the borough appear to show public pathways surrounding the estate.

Brentford Dock Limited (BDL) says the map shows the Thames Path and a new addition to it along the Ballymore river/canal side and then directly onto Brentford Dock leading east towards the clubroom and west towards Julius Point.

The public route is described as "waterside path/links".

BDL has urged its residents to oppose the plan which it says is "totally unacceptable".

Hounslow Council is currently consulting people about the future of towns, including Brentford, across the borough and has set out draft plans for each one.

Brentford Dock told its residents: "Whilst we can surmise the intention is to have a public footpath around the whole Dock, and the Thames riverside in particular, it is important that your comments relate to what is on the map as that in itself – in BDL's view – is totally unacceptable.

"Apart from the adopted public highway (Augustus Close/part of Justin Close) there are no public footpaths on the dock and never have been, including along the Thames riverside and residents may wish to express a view as to whether they would support the clear intention of LBH to create one."

The council recently served a notice on BDL after it put up gates at the entrance to the estate in Dock Road.

It followed complaints from residents of the private estate that non-residents were congregating in the barbecue area that has stunning views of the river.

But the wider community has said the river should be accessible to everyone in the town.

The deadline for comments is on Monday (March 15).
