Decision looms on massive Homebase redevelopment
A decision will be made tomorrow night on whether to give the go-ahead for redevelopment of the Tesco & Homebase sites near Gillette Corner.
The development is one of the biggest in the area for years and includes 1,670 housing units proposed for the current Tesco site as well as a Tesco store and 480 units on the Homebase site.
Local residents' groups have dubbed the development in "mini-Manhattan" as the buildings would be more than 17-storeys and there have been concerns that the schemes are not compliant with the Local Plan and the London Plan.
It is expected that Hounslow planning officers will recommend approval for the scheme.
Councillors on the planning committee will meet virtually tomorrow (8 April) at 5pm.
The Osterley & Wyke Green Residents' Association (OWGRA) has sent a letter to residents in the area explaining why it opposes the developments.
It said: "We maintain our belief that smaller schemes, at much lower height and density (maximum of 6 storeys), would be an appropriate solution, but it is essential that they must be preceded by completing all transport and roads infrastructure necessary to fully support them.
"The OWGRA Tesco/Homebase Residents' Action Group has been working very hard on behalf of the local community for the last 18 months to try to stop these monstrosities being built in this part of suburban London."
