Plans to stimulate the green economy, create jobs and communities of the future and make Hounslow a carbon neutral borough have been unveiled by the council.
A Green Enterprise Zone will be created that will grow the 'green economy' and bring investment and create jobs.
The Hounslow Council programme will be supported by a Green Skills Academy that will kick-start a new generation of workers who will make Hounslow's ambition to become a low carbon borough a reality.
The creation of 'Low carbon neighbourhoods' will aim to bring services, shops, recreational spaces and even employment opportunities closer to where people live and create neighbourhoods for the future.
The plans set out in the council's Green Recovery Strategy that was approved at a recent Cabinet meeting.
Councillor Samia Chaudhary, Cabinet Member for Leisure Services, who chairs the Green Recovery Board, said: "We're determined to make Hounslow one of the greenest borough's in the country.
"It's sometimes difficult to imagine the scale of change we need to see to address the challenges before us. That's why this strategy puts change into a concrete form that will inspire us to turn it into reality.
"The ambitious plans for the green recovery couldn't have been put together without contributions from residents, local businesses, academics, and partner organisations. We will continue to work collaboratively to deliver it.
"In the midst of a pandemic, these plans can give us hope that a healthier, greener and more sustainable future is possible."
