HOUNSLOW is among a number of outer London boroughs that is considering increasing the cost of its parking penalty charge notice (PCN), the Ilford Recorder has said.
The Recorder reported on potential changes that would see the Borough of Redbridge move from band B to band A charging system for parking misdemeanours.
It then went on to report that another four outer London boroughs, including Hounslow were also 'in the process' of moving.
These include Barnet, Brent, and Merton.
In practical terms, that would see the 'higher' category offences increase from £55 to £65 if the PCN is paid early, rising to £130 from £110 if not.
The 'lower' category penalty would jump from £30 to £40 if paid early, rising to £80 from £60 if not.
Cllr Hanif Khan, Cabinet Member for Transport and One Hounslow, said: "Hounslow Council applied for a change in the parking Penalty Charge Notice (PCN) tariff, from band B to band A.
"These recommendations are being made because level of compliance with parking regulations appears to be falling and it is considered that there is a need to increase the deterrent effect of PCNs in order to help assist in ensuring these regulations are adhered to.
"It is hoped that this will have specific benefits in terms of ensuring disabled bays are available for authorised (blue badge) holders and obstruction of the footway by parked cars is reduced.
"This would have particular benefits for road users with protected characteristics under relevant equalities legislation.
"Any decision to change the Bands is taken by London Councils, the Mayor of London and the Secretary of State for Transport.
"We will always ensure our residents are informed about any decisions impacting them."
