A rowing and paddle sports club based in Brentford is holding a school regatta later this month, featuring almost 100 local student athletes.
The regatta is run by Brentford based charity Team Keane, recently rebranded as the Hounslow Community Rowing Trust.
The Trust is focused on supporting rowing for local state schools, gaining funding through events such as the regatta. Team Keane's mission is to involve as many people as possible in sport on the river, from sculling, rowing, kayaking to canoeing. Over 100 local student athletes are set to compete on the Thames Tideway in front of Ferry Wharf, Brentford on Saturday. Participants include local schools with rowing programmes at Team Keane, as well as scores of rowers on the Team Keane racing squad. Schools invited are: The Green School for Boys, Ada Lovelace, Ealing Fields, UCS, Queensgate, Twyford, Christs School and International School London. Mayor of Hounslow, Councillor Bishnu Gurung, will be attending as a special guest to lead the medal ceremony. The community are welcome to join for the event, with the best viewing spot of the race course at Ferry Wharf. The festivities will also include a land-based ergometer competition, as well as a BBQ. It will be a busy schedule of racing, starting from 9:30am on Saturday, 27 November, until lunchtime. The Trust is funded through events such as this regatta, as well as grants, donations and sponsorship. For more information contact Ken Creighton on 07951251919.
