Hounslow Council will decide to grant a temporary trading licence to Taste of Palestine amid objections.

The licensing panel received six representations. Four from other persons and two from councillors, all who object the application from Fakhri Shaban Yussif Eid.

Mr Eid submitted an application to sell falafel, salad and soft drinks from his stall on Chiswick High Road adjacent to the public highway.

The owners of beauty salon Blo Bar, objected the application because it would visually disrupt their shop as Mr Eid plans to place his stall in front.

Blo Bar said: "This situation poses a significant threat to our livelihood...The introduction of a falafel stand in close proximity to our premises not only presents an unsightly visual disruption but also jeopardises the aesthetic appeal that our establishment lends to the intersection of Chiswick High Road and Chiswick Lane."

The salon also argued that the falafel food stall would take customers away from the existing businesses in the surrounding area.

Blo Bar added: "Adjacent to our business, we already have a distinguished restaurant and bar, and the presence of this falafel stand not only dissuades potential customers from patronising our salon but could also harm the prospects of the recently launched neighbouring business."

Councillors Joanna Biddolph and John Todd joined in objecting Mr Eid's falafel stall as it would hurt brick and mortar businesses.

Cllr Biddolph said: "I write to object to this application in the strongest terms. Street stalls have been shown, over and over and over again, to damage bricks and mortar food and drink businesses.

"This one will do the same. Licensing should not put at risk any of the borough's existing bricks and mortar businesses in Chiswick in favour of a street stall."

She continued: "The product is already oversupplied in Chiswick with middle eastern food and specifically falafel available in My Place (immediately behind the potential location), at Megans, Grilandia, Beirut Street Food Kitchen, Lara, West Kebab, Shams, Chateau, Rice Persian Kitchen as well as in wraps and ready-made salads in all our supermarkets who also need customers to buy from them."

Cllr Todd said: "I object to this licence being granted. The My Place cafe is a mere yard or two away from the proposed Palestine food stall.

"My place has been open for two months or so post a major refit. The previous owner ceased trading because of continuing losses.

"The proposed stall would obstruct an attractive and safe pedestrian walkway used by many. LBH (London Borough of Hounslow) Benches are provided for pedestrians to relax, they don't want the cooking fumes to permeate their airspace."

He added: "I want My Place to be able to compete with others on an equitable basis post a huge investment. Please refuse this application."

Owners of decorating specialist, Brewer & Sons, objected Mr Eid's plans as it would lead to cooking smells in the pavement and obstruct their A sign in front of their business.

Brewer & Sons said: "The proposed activity of frying food at the stall mentioned in the application would lead to unreasonable cooking smells entering Brewers' store, which would be off putting for many or all customers, and a nuisance to our staff working in the store."

It added: "Brewers has, in good faith, paid for a licence allowing the siting of an A board outside the store.

"The proposed activity of frying food at the stall mentioned in the application would lead to unreasonable cooking smells entering Brewers' store, which would be off putting for many or all customers, and a nuisance to our staff working in the store."

Mr Eid intends to operate from Monday to Saturday 10am to 5pm.
