May 2022 is National and Local Community History Month!

Brentford has a rich and varied history which owing to archaeological excavations we know dates human activity in the area to as far back as the Iron Age (700-300 BC).

With May the National and Local Community History Month, there is no time like the present to explore Brentford's fascinating past.

Doing exactly that, Brentford Voice has collaborated with Brentford & Chiswick Local History Society and displayed a collection of bright yellow posters around town that share, in bite-sized chunks, this local history.

Around 180 of these posters which have appeared around Brentford, particularly on the High Street, shed light on the history of buildings still standing and those that have been lost.

The two local groups with support from Brentford Thru My Lens, the Musical Museum, the Thomas Layton Trust, LB Hounslow Library Service and Brentford Dock residents, have paid particular thanks to the occupiers of land and buildings for agreeing to display the posters.

Brentford Dock residents have also scheduled two historic talks this May, both of which are free to attend:

1.     Thursday 12th May – A talk from a local historian

2.     Thursday 19th May – Mudlarking: Searching for London's Lost Treasures with Jason Sandy

Other events planned by Brentford Voice include:

1. Museum of London Archaeology and Ballymore have commissioned a video of the interior of St. Lawrence's Church (intended for general release during May).

2. A schedule of events at the Musical Museum and at Brentford Library, further details of which will be shared soon.

In tandem with these events, Brentford Nub News will be running a month-long series of Brentford Rewind, where we shed light on familiar and lesser-known periods of local history.

History buffs, stay tuned!
