Brentford Rewind: The old railway bridge and line in town centre

Brentford used to have a railway station in the heart of the high street.

Brentford railway station opened in 1860 on the Brentford Branch Line.

It was the only line of the Great Western and Brentford Railway Company, which had opened in 1859 and ran from Southall to Brentford Dock.

It stood immediately north of Brentford High Street on the embankment leading to the viaduct into the dock.

The station closed on 22 March 1915 as a wartime economy measure but re-opened on 12 April 1920.

It closed permanently in 1942 and the station was demolished in 1957.

Arches of the line are still visible opposite and currently accommodates the Carrera Worx garage.
