The Six Bells in Brentford expanded its pub clientele to include waterfowl this morning after a swan was found injured and alone nearby.

Known for its fine collection of cask ales and cosy setting, The Six Bells today (Monday, October 24) earned itself a reputation for avian rescue when the driver of a car, having hit a swan outside the pub, left it injured and distressed on Brentford High Street.

Spotting the scared swan, The Six Bells's Jacquie wasted no time in finding a blanket to wrap around the bird which, with the assistance of a kind man who stopped to help, she was able to safely transport to the pub's garden.

Animal rescuers from the RSPCA were quick to respond. Collecting the swan from The Six Bells, located at 148 Brentford High Street, they took her up the river to see how well she is able to swim in a safe place. Meanwhile The Swan sanctuary charity based down the road in Shepperton has said it will be keeping an eye out for the swan in the coming days and weeks of her hopeful recovery.

In a post about the incident on social media The Six Bells said: "Thought about renaming ourselves to The Swan Inn Brentford this morning!!!

"Some idiot hit the swan with their car driving up the high st outside the pub and left it in distress.

"Jacquie was quick thinking and threw a blanket over it to get it to safety in the garden (thanks to help from a guy that stopped to help her).

"The RSPCA have been and taken her up river to see if she is able to swim in a safe place and the Swan sanctuary will be keeping a look out for her too. Hope she makes it!"

With the help of The Six Bells, kind locals and the local animal charities, we wish the swan a speedy recovery!
