Brentford & Isleworth MP, Ruth Cadbury has condemned the home secretary's comments over the police's handling of recent pro-Palestinian protests.

In an article for The Times, Ms Braverman claimed that the force is applying a "double standard" to its policing of protests.

She said: "Unfortunately, there is a perception that senior police officers play favourites when it comes to protesters."

In disagreement to the home secretary's claims, Ms Cadbury called on PM Rishi Sunak to "sack her".

The Brentford MP said: "Suella Braverman is undermining our police chiefs, attacking their operational independence & fuelling divisions among communities.

"She is using her position as Home Secretary to audition to be the next Conservative leader. Yet Rishi Sunak is too weak to sack her."

The Met Police has already come out and said there are no grounds to ban a Palestinian protests on Armistice Day this Saturday.

It said: "Over recent weeks we've seen an escalation of violence and criminality by small groups attaching themselves to demonstrations, despite some key organisers working positively with us.

"But at this time, the intelligence surrounding the potential for serious disorder this weekend does not meet the threshold to apply for a ban."

However, Met Police Commissioner Sir Mark Rowley added: "Should this change, we've been clear we will use powers and conditions available to us to protect locations and events of national importance at all costs."

Ms Braverman's article has been heavily contested by former police officers and MPs, with pressure now on Rishi Sunak to dismiss her as home secretary.
