Money saving tips that can help future generations
Money saving tips that can help future generations

As part of this week's London Climate Action Week activities, Hounslow Council has issued advice to residents on how to cut their energy consumption, bills and the borough's carbon emissions.

From free information and support with saving energy, to what grants are available to help you save money at home, there is information - and support - available.

Here are some examples of what's on offer:

  • Call the Doctor - Hounslow Council works in partnership with Groundwork London's Green Doctor Service. These local experts offer a free home energy consultation, through a home visit or over the phone. They can help you to understand your energy bills, give you energy-saving tips and help you apply for support such as the Warm Homes Discount. Support is available for people on low incomes, those over 65s and people with long-term health conditions and disabilities.

  • Warmer homes - We are promoting the Mayor of London's Warmer Homes programme in the borough. More than 40,000 households are living in fuel poverty across the city. To help, grants of between £5,000 and £25,000 are available for energy-saving measures. This could be insulation, solar panels, heat pumps and other carbon and cost-cutting technology. The scheme is for households on low incomes.

  • Get on the BUS - Hounslow residents could be eligible for grants of up to £5,000 to fit clean heating systems when they replace their old oil and gas boilers under the Boiler Upgrade Scheme (BUS). The idea is to support homeowners with the costs of fitting environmentally-friendly measures such as air or ground source heat pumps.
