Brentford calendar celebrates the area's scenery and rich history

Brentford residents can purchase their very own Brentford 2022 calendar, featuring local landmarks and recognisable spots around town.

The calendar was created by Brentford born-and-bred resident Karen Reader, founder of the community group Brentford Thru My Lens.

This is the second year of the calendar's existence, after it proved popular last year.

The 2022 calendar includes photographs taken by Karen of various landmarks around Brentford, that celebrate the local community.

Karen, who started Brentford Thru Lens five years ago, wanted to highlight what the area has to offer, both past and present.

"I want to show that we have beautiful places and scenery here" Karen said, "but also that we have a really fascinating history and there are a lot of people who aren't aware of this.

"Brentford Thru My Lens is a space to share our history and capture what's happening now for future people."

Karen has followed her own family history in Brentford back generations, to the early 19th century.

Her ancestor Emma Humphries, who was widowed at 48 and had 6 children, ran the Salutation Inn in 1901 on Brentford High Street.

November stands out from the other months as it features a collage, put together last year for Remembrance Sunday.

Karen said: "November is special to me as it's a collage I did of Brentford men who fought in World War I and II.

"They're relatives of people who sent them in, also including my grandfather, and his brother who didn't make it home."

She added: "We have a special community here and we know how to look after each other.

"But we lose so much with redevelopment, including a lot of our history.

"So for me, seeing some things brought back to life is really special."

An A4 size calendar is £10.49 and the slimline calendar is £9.49, both with postage included.
