Alexandra Primary School will be closed this week due to an increase in cases of coronavirus.

Councillor Tom Bruce, Cabinet Member for Education, Children and Youth Services said the aim was to provide as much support for the Denbigh Road school as possible.

He added: "It is a measure of the times we live in that our schools are having to make these decisions.

"We are confident that school leaders are dealing with these difficult choices extremely well and they have our full support.

"Alexandra Primary School, like the others who have faced these issues, is working closely with our Public Health team to make sure disruption to pupils, staff and families is minimised."
