ABOUT TOWN: A look at the week's news and talking-points in Brentford – from THAT car park to the gates on the Dock

Welcome to a new regular Nub News column where we pick over the week's local news, have a look at what you've been talking about on social media and some general observations by the editor.

Traffic during lockdown in Brentford

Traffic across the capital has fallen but not to the levels of the first lockdown.

And that has been very apparent in Brentford.

At some points, traffic levels have felt more like rush-hour in normal times. We wonder, where are people going!?

That much talked-about car park

Editors want readers and reactions and the Dock Road car park has served up a feast over the last few months.

This week we reported on the latest pictures of the mural released by developers Ballymore.

The so-called "wonky" car park was derided from the moment it went up, especially as it had been left a miserable concrete grey.

Ballymore commissioned an artist to create a mural to depict characteristics of the town and produce a colourful and much-improved look.

But it hasn't impressed everyone with many posting on social media that they still think it's "hideous".

Nub News is totally impartial but we'll divert from our usual policy of not offering an opinion and say, well, we actually like it!

Those gates at Brentford Dock

Proposals to erect gates at Brentford Dock have also sparked much debate.

The Dock's argument is that it is a private estate and it has received complaints from its residents of anti-social behaviour from non-residents using it to access the river.

Others say everyone has the right to enjoy the Thames, it's one of the best things about living here.

It's a debate that is sure to rumble along as Dock bosses have said they believe they are not flouting planning rules by putting up the gates. As they say, watch this space.

The high street development

From what we can see from Augustus Close, this now looks very much like a construction site with concrete foundations being laid. It will of course be part of a major development being carried out by Ballymore to include flats, shops, bars and restaurants.

We'll bring you the latest pictures from the site on Nub News in the coming days.

Make it snappy

We know people love taking and sharing their photos. Nub News would like to do a regular gallery of readers' pictures taken in and around the town. Send in yours to [email protected].

And finally…

Exercise and fresh air are essential for physical health and mental health during these difficult times. We enjoyed a walk to Old Isleworth this week, through Syon Park.

Shame we couldn't pop in for a pint at The London Apprentice, but the walk sure did us good – get out and about, observe the rules and stay safe.
