Brentford Voice say they are "dismayed" after developers Ballymore announced a summer market which they fear will clash with the popular Brentford Market.

Ballymore recently announced a series of summer events to take place around Catherine Wheel Road.

Local community group Brentford Voice said: "There has been some speculation that Brentford Voice has been actively involved with Ballymore in their planning of a series of summer events in Catherine Wheel Road.

"One of these events is a Summer Market which is planned to take place every second Saturday of the month, 'with a huge variety of fresh produce, artisan goods and delicious delicacies on offer'.

"The first of these monthly events is planned to take place on Saturday 12 June, the day before the regular Sunday Market in the Market Place. Brentford Voice has had no involvement whatsoever in the planning of these summer events beyond knowing that they were being proposed.

"Indeed, we gave a very early request that any market should not clash with the Sunday Market.

"We are dismayed by Ballymore's timing but they say, very unsatisfactorily, that they had no alternative on the dates. They believe that there is the appetite for markets on consecutive days. We hope that their assessment is accurate but we continue to have doubts.

"We would urge everyone in Brentford to continue to support the regular Sunday Market in the Market Place, hopefully in even greater numbers.

"Ballymore have to improve their awareness of the fact that they are building within the heart of a wonderful, established, community. We expect much better from them."

Nub News contacted Ballymore who said they did not wish to comment.
