Public consultation started this week into the planning proposal for Brentford FC's Training Ground at Jersey Road, Osterley.

Local residents and neighbours of the 100, Jersey Road Training Ground were invited to two public exhibition events in The Pavilion this Tuesday and Wednesday.

The Club already has planning permission for a range of improvements to the existing site, granted in August 2020.

However, Brentford FC said these plans were based on the requirements for Championship football and did not include facilities for a Premier League club.

The club have therefore revisited the plans and will be submitting the planning application next year.

Members of OWGRA (Osterley & Wyke Green Residents' Association) said they were pleased to see the initial proposals for the upgrading of the facilities and shared the following comments with Nub News:

"We are pleased that this will be a zero-carbon development, and that the site will be better used.

We liked the use of wood on the barn-like building but were less complimentary about the black colour, and would prefer a lighter colour that might make it appear more welcoming and less dense.

Street views are required to show what the building and covered pitch would look like from Jersey Road – it is difficult to imagine the height of the building and covered pitch without such visuals.

There will be considerably more traffic coming to the site.

The entrance to the Training Ground is on a dangerous corner where cars frequently speed. The issue of traffic volume and speeding has to be addressed.

Large coaches will be accessing the grounds and this would add to safety concerns.

Vehicles would block Jersey Road as they queue to be security checked – this issue also needs addressing.

We would like to see a considerable amount of additional planting along the perimeter with Jersey Road.

We look forward to working with the club on this exciting development."

The proposals include:

Replacing the existing buildings with new high-quality buildings.

Include a covered pitch, a new full size external 4G pitch and floodlights for two outdoor pitches for all year-round training and community use.

Incorporate facilities that can be used for a Football Academy in line with UEFA requirements.

Provide space for a programme of community uses including youth and school outreach work run by Brentford FC Community Sports Trust.

They also hope to deliver the first Zero Carbon Premier League training ground.

The site

Brentford Football Club has operated its training ground at Jersey Road for 16 years.

The site is a short distance north of Great West Road (A4), to the west of Osterley Park.

The training facilities comprise five outdoor pitches, the original sports club pavilion and a series of single storey prefabricated buildings, some of which are in poor repair.

The car park accommodates 70 cars and there is an area for parking overspill for visitors.
