New environmental improvements were unveiled last week in the £1 million redevelopment project to the Feltham Arenas Parklands.

This marked the first phase in a multi-million-pound project to revitalise green and open spaces in Feltham.

The Feltham Arenas Parklands Masterplan was produced in 2016 and the latest development included the refurbishment of the Feltham Park tennis courts, which are now open for business.

Highlights of the £1 million first phase include:

* New entrances, designed to enhance the look and feel of the space.

  • Two new footbridges across the Longford River to better connect the space.
  • New dual pedestrian/cycle paths, including an accessible path over the mound.
  • Improved lighting to increase visibility and deter antisocial behaviour.
  • Vegetation clearance and better management of trees and shrubs.

London Borough of Hounslow's park services were recently named third best performing in London in the Good Parks for London report.

Hounslow Council's Cabinet Member for Leisure Services Cllr Samia Chaudhary, joined members of the project team on-site last week to officially open phase one.

Cllr Chaudhary said: "It is fantastic to see this first phase of this plan reach completion. The work complements and enhances this important green space.

"We want residents of our borough to be able to connect with our outdoor spaces, to appreciate the natural beauty that surrounds them and to use them to increase their physical activity and mental health and wellbeing.

"We hope many members of our local community find the great outdoors through the Feltham Arenas Parklands."

In August 2016 the Council worked with local stakeholders and partners to produce a new Feltham Arenas Parklands Masterplan.

The aim of the scheme included combining Blenheim Park, Feltham Arenas and Feltham Park into a connecting green space.

The main objectives of the masterplan are as follows:

  • To develop the Feltham parks as a sports and physical activity hub
  • To identify effective enhancements/ improvement responding to community need for short and long-term investment
  • To maximise the usage of the parks, including Feltham Green as green infrastructure for Feltham Town Centre and the Housing zone; and
  • To identify income generation opportunities that can sustain the management of the parks and increase usage.
