Strong winds of up to 100mph brought by Storm Eunice could endanger lives in London on Friday, forecasters have warned.

The Met Office has upgraded its weather warning from yellow to amber, forecasting "extremely strong winds" that could cause pandemonium including a "good chance" of power cuts, travel disruption and uprooted trees.

Gusts are already developing in Brentford as deadly Storm Dudley sweeps into the northern half of the UK.

Storm Eunice will arrive over southwest England early on Friday with gusts of 100mph possible.

The warning says: "There is a good chance that flying debris could result in a danger to life.

"Damage to buildings and homes is likely, with roofs blown off and power lines brought down.

"Roads, bridges and railway lines are likely to close, with delays and cancellations to bus, train, ferry services and flights."

The amber weather warning is set for 3am on Friday (February 18) until 9pm.
